Outreach at Jasper United Church

The Mission and Service fund is one way that we at Jasper United reach beyond the walls of our beautiful church to bring hope, help and God's love to people in our province, country and world.

Each Sunday, at the beginning of worship, we celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, we sing to those celebrating as they come forward to make a donation to our small church that sits upon our pulpit.  The money this small church collects is sent to Wrinch Hospital in Hazelton, British Columbia.  The United Church Health services has been looking after health care delivery in rural and isolated Communities in Canada since the turn of the centruy and before. This is a 15-bed hospital, located 180 miles east of Prince Rupert and serves an aboriginal and non-aboriginal community of over 7,000 people from 10 villages and reserves.  In addition to a medical clinic and hospital services the facility offers a full dental clinic and pharmacy.  The hospital is affiliated with the University fo British Columbia Medical School and helps train medical students and residents.

Year round by the doors to our Church sits a huge basket that collects food for Jasper Food Bank.  At Thanksgiving our congegation is invited to bring in canned food items which are in turn is also donated.

Annually our United Church hosts a Christmas Tea and Bazaar.  This is a chance for folks to slow the pace of the Christmas season and offers opportunity to visit over coffee/tea and desert.  Once finished with conversation and treats patrons can do some leisurely browsing of the many items donated to our church for those gifts they still need to find.

Do you need bedding plants or hanging baskets?  Each spring our folks host the Spring Plant Sale.  We bring into our McCready Center a wide variety of plants from bedding plants to beautiful hanging baskets.  Look for the announcement of this annual sale in late May.

"Many hands make light the load!"  "Thank you" to the many volunteers who give so generously of their time to our thrift shop.  Thanks also to the many people of Jasper who bring their gently used items to our thrift shop.  It is because of the generosity of many we are able to offer this outreach to those in need.

As well our McCready Center is regularly used by local groups, Guides, Brownies, Sparks and the Smoothie club, Tai Chi plus Ecole Desrocher (just to name a few) and those who come from far away.  The McCready Center has a fully operational kitchen, large meeting space ideal for a time of community, playing games or sleeping overnight while enjoying the many activities in Jasper.

Reaching beyond our sanctuary's walls and into the community and the world beyond is one more aspect of who we are as we work together doing God's ministry in the mountains!
