Yellowknife United Church

Exploring Our Faith: There have been some questions and inquiries over the past several months with respect to church membership. In addition, our church board has been asked to vote on three different statements of faith that The United Church of Canada has adopted over it's history, The question is whether each of these statements should be considered under the Doctrine section of the Basis of Union. In order to explore these questions of membership, statements about our faith, and what it means to be Christian in the world today, a series of study sessions will take place in the coming weeks. These study sessions are open to everyone - members and adherents, board members.
If you are interested in all or any of these sessions, will you please place your name on the "interest list" along with contact information and information about possible meeting times and dates. Watch for details in the coming weeks.

Coffee break with NUP residents every Thursday at 10am in the 8th floor coffee lounge. Everyone is welcome. Come through Apt. entrance on 54th Street, call *0101 for access.

Meals on Wheels
Thank you to the Meals-on-Wheels drivers for this month: Rai Brown, Brad Hall, Ken Hall, Sonia Hewlko, Stuart Oldham and John Soderberg. Your assistance, and that of anyone in your family who helped you, is very much appreciated. Yellowknife United Church is one of seven community groups who are committed to providing volunteer drivers on a one week out of seven rotating basis; meals-on-wheels is one of the community outreach projects that our congregation is involved in. At the present time, there are two or three individuals in Yellowknife who require an evening meal to be delivered via the meals-on-wheels program.

Volunteers are contacted by the coordinator once every seven weeks to see if they are available to drive on one of the days for "our week". If you are busy or away that week, no worries, you'll get called upon when our turn comes up again. The task involves picking up the meals from the Stanton Hospital kitchen sometime between 4:45 and 5:30, and delivering to those individuals on the list for the day. The entire commitment takes less than one hour. If you are interested in letting your name stand on the list of potential drivers, please call Jeannette Hall, MOW coordinator, at 873-3942. Our next week to drive begins on February 25, 2012.

Affirm Study Group
Affirm Study Group: Please join us after worship this morning for a D3 Lunch! We are going to "D"ine on soup and bannock, "D"iscuss the theme "Aren't We Already There?" and then "D"ash off to Sunday afternoon activities within an hour. We're going to increase our understanding of why we believe God is calling us to become an Affirming Ministry so members of YKUC can easily explain it to self, congregation and others. ALL are welcome!

Congregational Meeting: The annual financial congregational meeting of Yellowknife United Church will take place following worship on February 5. This is when the budget for 2012 will be set and when important decisions about the work of the church in the coming year will be determined. Lunch will be provided.

The Outreach Committee invites you to A Ration Meal following worship next week, January 22. The purpose of this meal is to raise awareness of the plight of people in East Africa and to learn more about the work of the Canadian Food Grains Bank in helping to relieve the food crisis in that part of our world. More information will be available through the YKUC news group and at worship next week. Meanwhile you can find out more at: http://foodgrainsbank.ca/ration_meal.aspx
