Yellowknife United Church

Coffee break with NUP residents every Thursday at 10am in the 8th floor coffee lounge. Everyone is welcome. Come through Apt. entrance on 54th Street, call *0101 for access.

The "Exploring Our Faith" session will meet as planned on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 pm and will be followed with a simple meal - as we have done at the past sessions.

Moderator's Visit: Moderator Mardi Tindal along with General Secretary, Nora Sanders will be making a visit to Yellowknife from March 8 to 15. They will also be accompanied by their sons. Planning is underway for their time here and will likely include a few activities which are open to everyone in the congregation. For details of one these events, please see below!

Potluck Lunch: Following worship on March 11 we will have a potluck lunch. This will offer an opportunity for us to meet Moderator Mardi Tindal and General Secretary Nora Sanders on a more informal basis.

Next Sunday, March 4 will be a worship service shared with Holy Family Lutheran Church led by Pastor Kirk Tastad and Reverend Peter Chynoweth. As usual on the first Sunday of the month it will include Holy Communion.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - Thank you to everyone who donated ingredients and equipment and who attended the pancake supper on Tuesday night. A special thank you to kitchen manager Peter Chynoweth and all the men who helped with set-up, cooking and clean-up. 132 people attended the supper and we made $938.00.

The new Sunday school session has started up and we need volunteers.

A little about our program: we are a one room Sunday school with children varying in age from 2 to 10 or 11. Our numbers vary from 3 to about 8 per Sunday. The package is very detailed with a main theme/story and lots of ideas each week for games, activities and prayers.

What you’d need to do/commit to: as little or as much as you’d like. Last session we had 4 teachers with varied styles. Some picked a Sunday at a time, some covered a month at a time.

If you’re interested in signing up or getting more info, please contact me at 669-6353 (home) or by e-mail lindsaychiasson@theedge.ca. It would be great if we could get more people involved. Thanks for thinking about it.

Lenten Lunches: The Yellowknife Ministerial Association is once again sponsoring a lunch on each Wednesday during the season of Lent. The first lunch was last Wednesday, February 22nd. These soup and sandwich lunches at noon in the basement of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, followed by a speaker from one of the churches in Yellowknife, are a good way to enjoy a hearty meal and mark the season with thought and prayer. Holy Family Lutheran Church and Yellowknife United Church have been asked to provide lunch this Wednesday, February 29th. If you can help with soup or some sandwiches, please tell Marg Henderson.

Missing: One of the large soup pots & lid belonging to the UCW is missing. If anyone has borrowed the pot or might know of it’s whereabouts, please contact Marg Henderson or let Gwyneth know in the YKUC office. Thank you.

Stewardship Seconds: Noah was a great steward! He was also a farmer….not a boat builder – and yet he built the most famous boat of all time. Stewardship is trusting that God will provide what you need to do His work.
