Bethlehem Lutheran Ministries
Church of Follow the Star

The purpose of the puppet team is to minister to people of all ages through drama, music and humor. The team serves as a witness for Christ. It is a wonderful way to tell children and adults that Jesus loves them and is their Savior. This ministry features young people behind the stage, as well as in front of the stage. Attitude, spirit and commitment are more important than "know-how". There are no try-outs. Anyone 4th grade and older may join. Puppetry techniques will be learned - friendship and fun will be experienced! Come see how our puppet friends "take the Gospel where no puppet has gone before!"

"May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." - Romans 15:5-6

PUPPET TREK UPDATE - Nov. 2006

On October 27th, Puppet Trek trekked to Manhattan Beach to attend the Southern California Regional Puppetry Festival, held at Journey of Faith Church and sponsored by One-Way Street. The overnight trip was a great learning experience, as the 2-day festival included devotions, demonstrations, workshops, performances and competitions. Plus, the traditional late-night tailgate party in the church parking lot after our puppeteers competed in the song competition Friday evening was fun as always!

Puppet Trek performed "I Want It God's Way" in the song competition, and received a Gold Award plus a special award for outstanding props (Yea, Glenn!) by the judges and were voted "People's Choice" by the other teams. In addition, a Lip Synch Challenge was held - 16 of the best puppeteers were judged on their proper techniques and skills at making the puppets seem alive while accurately lip synching a random song which they may or may not be familiar with. At the end of four rounds, our own Stephanie G. took first place! (Yea, Steph!)

Parents Ian and Sharon W. and Rebecca D. also made the trek to watch the competition. Ian helped out by possibly bribing a judge (did he? or didn't he?) And a big "Thank You!" to Rebecca who bought and donated a beautiful new fluorescent feather-haired puppet to the team!
