Spiritual Abuse

What is spiritual abuse?

Spiritual abuse is the misuse of a position of power, leadership, or influence to further the selfish interests of someone other than the individual who needs help. Sometimes abuse arises out of a doctrinal position. At other times it occurs because of legitimate personal needs of a leader that are being met by illegitimate means. Spiritually abusive religious systems are sometimes described as legalistic, mind controlling, religiously addictive, and authoritarian.  With all that is going in churches today, people just don’t know when they are being spiritual abuse.   It is okay to follow and understand the vision of you minister but do you think people gave minister too much power?  You never want to take the power from God.  It is like an abusive spouse; sometime they might abuse you mentally, emotionally, or your finance.  Some people take it because they are in love with the minister like abusive spouse.   Abuse is not of God.
