HISTORIC INFORMATION
1870 – Organization of German Methodist Episcopal Church
1871 – German Methodist Episcopal Church built at corner of Mulberry St & St Rd. 229 S
Property consisted of one acre for church & cemetery - $300
Brick Structure
1889 – New brick German Methodist Episcopal Church built in present location. Coal oil lamps and chandeliers provided the light. Two large stoves provided the heat.
1915 – First furnace installed. All services were conducted in German through 1918.
1918 – Name changed to First Methodist Episcopal Church. The original German name remains carved in the stone above the double windows.
Stucco Structure
1891 – Organized English speaking congregation Services were held in the Union Hall.
1894 – English speaking white frame church built on corner of S Park Ave. & Catherine St.
1913 – Name changed to Wesley Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church.
1926 – Uniting of First Methodist Episcopal Church & Wesley Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church.
1934 – Wesley Chapel building move to present location.
Office & hallway with basement built.
Brick sanctuary was renovated with new carpet and light.
Austin organ was installed.
1937 – Chancel furnishings
1963 – Education wing was built.
