Thanks to LuHi's Lutheran Crusader Fund for again selecting St. Luke's Youth Ministry for a grant that will enable us to continue our work on a special project creating a new youth ministry room. This room will allow our youth to enjoy Christian fellowship while equipping them to spread the Gospel and assist people in need !
The St. Luke's Youth Ministry Mission Statement October 2006
Youth are called by the Holy Spirit through Word and Sacrament to full partnership in the community of faith and challenged to full participation in the life and ministry of Christ and His church. St. Luke's seeks to nurture that partnership through its newly formed youth ministry. Youth Ministry . . . - Is centered in Jesus Christ . . . given in baptism . . . nurtured through the proclamation and study of God's Word . . . strengthened through participation in the Lord's Supper.
- Supports young people as full members of the church today as well as the church of the future.
- Challenges young people to take a role in shaping the church's mission to the world.
- Is a part of and not apart from the congregation's life and mission.
- Equips youth to utilize their God-given gifts as faithful disciples.
- Speaks to the full range of life issues of youth in the congregation and the community.
- Is person oriented.
- Is family inclusive.
- Is congregation based.
- Is outward focused.
- Is ministry to, by, with, through and for youth.
Our vision for St. Luke's Youth Ministry rests upon a biblical framework. St. Luke's Youth Ministry seeks to bring young people and adults together as a community of God's people where . . . - Jesus Christ is the central focus in celebrating in Word and Sacrament (Colossians 3:16-17)
- Youth develop significant relationships with their peers and caring adults (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
- Young people grow in faith, their personal relationship with Christ and who they are as God's people (Ephesians 3:16-19)
- Youth can ask hard questions and find answers about faith and life (2 Timothy 3:14-17, Matthew 7:7)
- Confession, absolution and unconditional love are the hallmarks of Christian community (Ephesians 4:32)
- Young people join in worship, nurture, service, outreach and fellowship activities (1 Timothy 4:12, Acts 2:42-47)
- Young people know that they are accepted (Romans 15:5-7)
- Young people are able to serve in meaningful ways in the church and in the world (2 Corinthians 9:12)
- Youth can use their gifts to the glory of God (1 Peter 4:10, Romans 12:4-8)
Youth Ministry Update -- November 19th Sandy Shelley
Well we did not have the luck for today (11/19/06) with the wreaths (the supplier promises to have the fresh evergreen wreaths tomorrow) :-( so ...... We will be decorating the wreaths THIS FRIDAY (day after thanksgiving) from 9am - 12 noon (or until finished). We need all the help we can get!!! SaraKay has to leave by 12 and I have 2 little ones (that I am still not sure what I am going to do with).... so we need some adult "supervisors" to help out! As planned we will be selling them on Sunday, November 26th. Youth Group members need to be there NO LATER than 9am to set up for the sale. We will sell until they are gone. DRESS WARM! This is going to be a great day! Sandy
Youth Ministry Update -- November 5th Nov-05-2006
Our meeting today was well attended, especially by our youth. Lots of great ideas were discussed for our upcoming activities and our new room to be built in the coming months. Lots more ideas and participation are needed to make this a great success.
Everyone decided to have the first activity be a wreath making fundraiser. The older youth will be going to purchase the things needed to make the wreaths. The wreaths were going to be priced by Peter at Curt's on Oregon Rd. Update to follow. SaraKay will take them shopping. The wreaths will be put together on Sunday, November 19th @ 9:30am (until done) and sold on the (weekend of Thanksgiving) 26th @9:30 until the afternoon. Stay tuned for more info ... This will be a fund raiser for the youth group. We are looking for more ideas and people to come to the next few meetings. Sandy & The Youth Ministry Steering Committee
Youth Ministry Update -- October 2006
Minutes from our first meeting on Sunday, October 22, 2006 PLEASE REMEMBER THAT OUR NEXT MEETING IS NOVEMBER 5TH @9:30 am -- ALL ARE INVITED. We have people that agreed to help with some "jobs": Kim Guzzo will help organize any sporting events that we can bring the kids to. IE: baseball games, bowling, Football games, ice skating... George: Will arrange Hiking trips. SaraKay Eyring & Mary Eickler: They will lead our groups on Sunday mornings 9:30-10:30am. The rest of us can sub for them when needed. Jim Creighton: Will be writing a letter to "The Lutheran Church Crusader Fund" to ask for a matching funds or donation for the renovations of the garage. (Jim remember that there is a November 1st deadline for that letter) Our plan so far is to meet 2xs a month for the group in the evening and every Sunday. This will be a group for Middle school and high school. Our first meeting on 11/5 will include the kids and we will poll them to see what interests them. We plan to offer them food (breakfast) on Sundays. We also talked about 2 part nights such as pizza and a movie. Some questions we have are: 1. Finances for this group? where do they come from? is there any in the budget? 2. The name of the church in Fishkill? We would like to touch base with them to ask about their youth group. 3. Does the Missouri Synod still offer "The Walther Group"? We had a very productive meeting. Thanks to all who attended. This is going to be a huge success! Please come back on 11/5 with some ideas from your part (i.e. some sporting events that may be coming or plans for the Sunday classes). We are hoping to use the green room when possible and I will forward this to Edee Caristo so she knows when planning Sunday School. I hope we can come to the kids and give some feed back on our ideas and that they come with ideas as well. We need to get the letters and phone calls started. I will have the 'invitation' for the 11/5 meeting done by Wednesday I would love to have names by then so we do not miss anyone. Maybe Melissa Creighton can send some to me???? Please! Please give me your feed back and I am looking forward to seeing everyone then. Sandy

Youth Ministry Email Comments
Dear All, I sent my two college kids emails and mentioned what we were trying to do. I asked that they send me any opinions or ideas that they thought were important, or be thinking about it so we could talk at Thanksgiving. K__ wrote me back this afternoon............... "some suggestions for the new church youth group would be to hold events that they would be interested in...like something to do with sports...idk...something of interest to them though...and then think of a way to incorporate a religious aspect but don't make the entire thing religious...." So, that's from a 19 year old. Obviously she thought that the church group idea was important enough to respond to. I generally get one email from her every couple of weeks. LOL It looks as though we are going in the right direction. By God's grace. S__
