About New Hope Christian Church
Southwest Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was originally founded as South Agnew Christian Church on August 20, 1939. It was originally located at 2308 South Agnew in Oklahoma City. Many original members of the South Agnew Christian Church are still active members of the church.
On April 5, 1953, South Agnew Christian Church moved to 2841 S.W. 41st Street. At that time, the present facility consisted of little more than a sanctuary. On December 17, 1953 the church officially changed its name to Southwest Christian Church and recorded the change at the state capitol. The church's pastor was Grant Berry.
Southwest Christian Church continued to grow on S.W. 41st Street, adding facilities and members to church. In the meantime, Good Shepherd Christian Church formed and settled at 12323 South Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City.
In the fall of 2005, Southwest Christian Church and Good Shepherd Christian Church began to discuss, together, the possibility of merging our congregations to better serve and worship Jesus Christ. Both churches agreed to become one and, on Sunday November 27th, 2005 (the first Sunday of Advent), the congregations began to worship together at the facilities of Good Shepherd Christian Church at 12323 S. Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City.
In January, 2006, the church officially changed its name to New Hope Christian Church. New Hope plans to continue to grow in its ministry to the community and its members. Our growing youth group plans and carries out many activities including trips, fun outings, plays, musicals, and volunteer activities. We also have an active "Over 40 Club" and Christian Women's Fellowship which provide opportunities for worship, bible study, fellowship, and community activities.
The only thing we're missing is you! If you would like to be a part of this vibrant, growing, and evangelizing church family, plan on visiting us soon. We look forward to seeing you.
