He Comforts Us...So That We May Comfort Others
In the last New Hope Newsletter, I shared with each of you some thoughts about what it means to be "called". As you may remember, Oswald Chambers proposed to us that God's calling may not be a thundering command from the heavens; it may be a subtle suggestion of how you can make a difference in the life of another human being, our church, or our community.
In my volunteer work as a telephone listener at a local crisis phone line, I have been struck by the number of human beings in our community who feel alone, uncared for, and desperate. We talk to thousands of individuals each month who are willing to call an anonymous phone line because they just need to hear another voice; they need someone to listen and care. Have you considered the power of your ministry of being available for others? To simply listen and care?
Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth, "He comforts us when we are in trouble, so we can share that same comfort with others in trouble." (2 Corinthians 1:4). A simple card or phone call, a hug, a touch, a comforting word, a non-judgmental ear can be a lifeline to a human being who is wounded or feeling discouraged.
Please consider reaching out to someone this week who you know is hurting or confused. Let them feel God's love through your ministry of caring.
