Homelessness is becoming a family thing. More and more families are forced to leave their homes because of forecloser, unseen medical costs, loss of jobs, flooding and fire. Children are being greatly affected. Arnold Methodist Church decided this year to open its doors to house the homeless. In August of 2007 we greeted our first guests. The church came together to provide a warm and safe place for the homeless to stay with a home cooked meal each evening and breakfast the next morning and a packed lunch for the children who would need it.
We soon discovered what being homeless meant as the church folks gathered with the homeless each evening to hear how their day had gone. Across the table not only food was shared but family and love.
In November the church opened a clothing closet to the homeless and to those in the community in need. Word has spread to other churches in the valley and clothing has come pouring in each week much of it new. We received so much that we torn out walls to make the area larger and went out and purchased used clothing racks from a store that was closing.
As one of our families gets their feet back on the ground and moves into a new apartment or home there is some crambling that goes on trying to find furniture for them.
Just to see the thankful look on their face is enough to keep us moving to do more.
