Springdale/Arnold United Methodist Church
To Reach the World for Christ by Looking Up for Divine Guidance and Reaching Out Through God's Love

Confirmation Class 2007

Pictured above are some of the youth from Arnold and Springdale U.M.C. that will be professing their faith and joining the church on Pentecost Sunday. On Friday, March 30th they traveled to the Conference Center to meet with the staff and Bishop Thomas Bickerton and to learn more about what it means to be a Christian and a United Methodist.  They learned that as youth they play an important role in the church serving as pages at Annual Conference and as youth representatives.  They also learned that they can make a difference in the lives of children living in Africa by raising money to purchase nets that will protect them against getting malaria. Together we can stamp out this disease one net at a time. They got to go to the carnival and play games to raise money for Nothing But Nets. They learned about our United Methodist camps, and about mission trips to help rebuild lives torn apart by disasters.

Fresh, New Look

This summer Springdale UMC has been putting on a fresh, new look and getting ready for the winter ahead. Railings have been painted, and the stucco painted and boards replaced. A new flower bed has been laid out, and new sidewalks constructed. Some work has been done on the parsonage.

What are you seeking?

During this season of the year many are looking for something, but they do not know what that something may be.  Many think that if they fill their lives up with material things; cars, houses, boats, DVDs and Cable TV, that the emptiness will be filled.  But there is a place that only God can fill in our lives.  We were created for Him and by Him.  If you are looking...if you are searching then come and be united with Him and join in the fellowship of the believers.  Our doors are open.  Like His, our arms are outstretched.  We invite you to come and to be a apart of God's family.

OAK YOUTH NEWS

Our youth are very active as you can see.  Each month they bake cookies for over 110 individuals that receive Meals-On-Wheels.  The youth love to get in the kitchen, boys and girls alike.  For Christmas the boys made pizelles while the girls made homemade peppermint candies to take to our shut-ins.  The youth group also went out Christmas caroling at the homes of Church members and shut-ins.

Free Christmas Day Dinner at Arnold

Volunteers came from a number of other churches throughout the valley to help the members of the Arnold United Methodist Church with its first Free Christmas Day Dinner. At the annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner the question was asked of our many guests if they would be interested in a Christmas Day Dinner.  Many responded, "YES!"

There are many who spend Christmas Day alone and many cannot get out to be with others on Christmas Day.  A friendly face and a warm dinner are ways that the church can extend the love with which Christ has blessed us. This Christmas we were overwhelmed by the responds.  Over 68 guests came together at the Arnold church, not counting those who prepared and served the food.  We received a last minute call from a highrise in Lower Burrell asking if we could bring meals there on Christmas Day.  The call went out and folks came together to meet the need. Thirty-three more meals were prepared and delivered. No one went away hungry.

For those who were able to come to the church a special visit from "Old Saint Nick" awaited them. One by one they came and sat on Santa's lap; young and elderly, small and large, men, women and children.  Laughter filled the hall as Santa reached into his bag and presented each one with a small gift.
