… now my boat’s left on the shore-line behind me: by your side I will seek other seas. - Voices United, #563

Acts 1:1-11

Peter’s Report to the Church at Jerusalem

1Now the apostles and the believers* who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also accepted the word of God.

2So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers* criticized him,

3 saying, ‘Why did you go to uncircumcised men and eat with them?’

4Then Peter began to explain it to them, step by step, saying,

5‘I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. There was something like a large sheet coming down from heaven, being lowered by its four corners; and it came close to me.

6As I looked at it closely I saw four-footed animals, beasts of prey, reptiles, and birds of the air.

7I also heard a voice saying to me, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat.”

8But I replied, “By no means, Lord; for nothing profane or unclean has ever entered my mouth.”

9But a second time the voice answered from heaven, “What God has made clean, you must not call profane.”

10This happened three times; then everything was pulled up again to heaven.

11At that very moment three men, sent to me from Caesarea, arrived at the house where we were.

Church Picnic

Coming Soon

  • June 20, 2009: Riverbend United Church is having a farewell party, and because you just might know our Karen Bridges we would like to you come. Karen has offered her gift of ministry to the children, youth and young adults (and our whole congregation) at Riverbend for over 13 years and her ministry often extends to other congregations, presbytery, and conference. She has touched many lives with her ministry and is now moving to BC to complete her studies at the Vancouver School of Theology. We hope all who have been touched by Karen will come celebrate her time with us. It will be quite a party with a BBQ, jumpy house, games, silent auction, even dancing in the parking lot with music for all ages and of course a “Karen roast”. Tickets are $25 per steak or salmon plate. Children under 12 will be served Hot Dogs at no charge.

Karen’s farewell shindig is from 4:00 – 10:00 June 20th. If you would like tickets, please contact Pat at the Riverbend United Church office 780-430-7275.

We extend a sincere welcome to members, adherents, and visitors interested in our church and to those who are looking for a church home in our area. It is hoped that this site will provide useful information about our faith community and encourage you to attend our worship services. You can obtain our newsletter by sending a message to The Front Pew requesting it or reading it in Publications.

Our church family is a friendly and supportive one where both young and old come to worship and to take part in the special interest groups that encourage fellowship and spiritual growth. Our Congergational Ministers – Don E Koots, Karen J Bridges, Music Director - David S. Smith, Accompanist - Mitchell Cox, Parish Nurse – Joanne Olson, Bell Choir Director – Lois Samis Lund, Custodian – Bruce Kemp, and Office Administrator – Pat MacDonald, combine their unique talents to provide a helpful and caring ministry to people of all ages, as we celebrate life’s gifts and cope with life’s difficulties.

Riverbend United Church is relatively young, having had its first service on October 12, 1980. It basically serves the southwest part of the city of Edmonton and has a congregation of approximately 350 families.

Our worship services are at 9:00 and 10:30 am every Sunday, with extra services during the Christmas and Easter seasons. Children can attend a structured Sunday school program at the 10:30 am service. There is also a supervised nursery for toddlers at the 10:30 am service. Our church is wheel chair accessible for the handicapped.

Welcome visitors and newcomers - we are delighted to have you join us for worship! We hope that you will introduce yourself to the Minister and/or Greeters, and join us for coffee and conversation following the service. The last Sunday of each month is "Muffin Sunday," hosted by the Pastoral Care Committee. This is an opportunity to meet other members of the congregation, or to renew old acquaintances, in a friendly, informal setting.
