… now my boat’s left on the shore-line behind me: by your side I will seek other seas. - Voices United, #563

Matthew 13.31-33, 44-52

31He put before them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field;

32it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’

33He told them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with* three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.’

44‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

45 ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls;

46on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

47‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and caught fish of every kind;

48when it was full, they drew it ashore, sat down, and put the good into baskets but threw out the bad.

49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous

50and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 ‘Have you understood all this?’ They answered, ‘Yes.’

52 And he said to them, ‘Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.’

It is hoped that this site will provide useful information about our faith community and encourage you to attend our worship services. You can obtain our newsletter by sending a message to The Front Pew requesting it or reading it in Publications.

    Our church family is a friendly and supportive one where both young and old come to worship and to take part in the special interest groups that encourage fellowship and spiritual growth. Our Congergational Ministers – Don E Koots, Karen J Bridges, Music Director - David S. Smith, Accompanist - Mitchell Cox, Parish Nurse – Joanne Olson, Bell Choir Director – Lois Samis Lund, Custodian – Bruce Kemp, and Office Administrator – Pat MacDonald, combine their unique talents to provide a helpful and caring ministry to people of all ages, as we celebrate life’s gifts and cope with life’s difficulties.

    Riverbend United Church is relatively young, having had its first service on October 12, 1980. It basically serves the southwest part of the city of Edmonton and has a congregation of approximately 350 families.

    Our worship services are at 9:00 and 10:30 am every Sunday, with extra services during the Christmas and Easter seasons. Children can attend a structured Sunday school program at the 10:30 am service. There is also a supervised nursery for toddlers at the 10:30 am service. Our church is wheel chair accessible for the handicapped.

    Welcome visitors and newcomers - we are delighted to have you join us for worship! We hope that you will introduce yourself to the Minister and/or Greeters, and join us for coffee and conversation following the service. The last Sunday of each month is "Muffin Sunday," hosted by the Pastoral Care Committee. This is an opportunity to meet other members of the congregation, or to renew old acquaintances, in a friendly, informal setting.
