Using Your Text Options - Part 2

This is part 2 of 2 in a series about using the text options available through the Text Editing Tool. You can see this tip (and others) online, or go straight to the archives.

Introduction

Our last ForMinistry Tip contained an overview of the Web Builder's text building and editing function. We focused on two features: such as teasers and text parts, and we showed you how to set up each text item so that it could be viewed on your website.

This Tip will focus on the last few features in the text editor window: Author and Copyright Information and Display Options. These features are designed to support and enhance your work.

For more online help with these functions, go to our Quickhelp site.

Author and Copyright Information

Many text items that you will place on your website will come from sources other than yourself. In those cases, it's important to give credit to the authors and organizations for the work that they've done.

Most articles and other text items are copyright protected, so it's important not only to give credit to the source, but also to ask for permission to use such material.

It's simple to set up the author and copyright (if needed) information for your text item. Just input the appropriate information in the spaces provided for Author, Date, and Copyright. Once you are finished with your editing, click on Save and Update.

Display Options

Text Display Options
When your text item is placed on a page, you have the option of also showing these items along with your main text:

1. Title. This is the Title you used at the beginning (top) of the text item window to identify it. This is useful because you don't have to write out the title again in your text area. The title format is set so that all your titles can look exactly the same on your website.

2. Author. (See above) If you include the author's name with this text item, you can show that along with the title at the top of the text item, formatted accordingly.

3. Date. You can show the date of this text item (either the date it was created or the date it is posted).

4. Copyright. (See above) The copyright information will be shown at the very end of the text item.

5. Part Titles. If you have separated this text item into different parts (or pages), You can show each part title at the beginning of each segment or page of the text. If each part is viewed on separate pages, the part title will be seen at the top of the page.

Teaser Display Options

The teaser display options work just as the text display options do, so that the information you want to show (i.e., Title, Date, Author) can be seen when the teaser for this text item is placed on a page.

Other Text Features

Text Rating

Text rating is used as a way to get readers involved with each text item. They can vote on things such as how much they liked this article, or if it was helpful for them in any way (or any other question you may want to ask).

This information is displayed with the main body of text (depending on where you want it to be seen).

Related Text

This feature allows you to group together articles or text items that are related in some way. You may have a series of articles that are on one topic, and would like them to be linked together. You can also link specific webpage URL's and post them on your related text area.

Just click on Click here to add/remove related text, and then click the Add button next to either the Article (which has to be uploaded already on your site) or URL. Then input the correct information, and click on Save and Update when finished.

Until next time...
