web_builder Tips: Right Mouse Button Functionality

1 – INTRO

As you become more familiar with the ForMinistry Web site text editing tool, you’ll notice that just like most word processing tools (such as Microsoft Word or Word Perfect), it has it’s own set of tricks and shortcuts. Remember, none of these produce a new functionality, but may offer you another way to work faster.

The right mouse button (right-click) function for most applications opens another menu (sometimes called a context menu). This menu usually includes a list of actions appropriate to the object on which you’ve clicked (or highlighted). We are introducing the right mouse button (right-click) functionality within your text editing tool.

Some of the actions available to you with the right-click function are:

      • Cut, copy, paste
      • Make link
      • Justify (right, left, center, full)
      • Remove (certain section, paragraph, formatting, etc.)
      • Table and cell properties
      • Image properties

2 – THREE DIFFERENT EXAMPLES

Here are three examples of right-click actions available:

a. Text editing
Highlight a certain section of text and right-click on the highlighted area.

b. Image Properties
When you place an image within your text item, you can make changes to it using the right-click menu. You can link an image to another Web page or site by using the Make link function.

c. Table Properties
Changes to a table can be done either through the menu bar or through the right-click function. Remember, to place a table in your text item, click the Table Icon above in the menu bar.

You can click (or highlight) a particular cell or the entire table itself to make changes. Items (text, images, etc.) within each cell can be edited normally using the menu bar.

3 – FINAL THOUGHTS

Don’t be afraid to try out some of the text editing functions. Remember, if you make a mistake on your site, you can go back and make the changes you need. You can also delete that item if it’s not what you need, and work on a new item. If you don’t need a particular item any longer on your Web site, remember to delete it from the Content Repository.

Trial and trial again is one of the greatest ways to learn. Be adventurous!
